Saturday 14 July 2007

“Please run it again next year.”
Royal Enfield Big Day Out attendee speaking to Gordon May.

“A cracking good show*
Classic Bike Guide editor, Tim Britton, speaking to Gordon May at the show.

Motorbike fans and the just plain curious had travelled from far afield to our showground in Redditch for a day of all things Royal Enfield. We had displays, competitions, speakers, 6 former members of the Royal Enfield trials team including legend Johnny Brittain, and a big dollop of Royal Enfield fan solidarity.

Torrential for twenty-four hours immediately before the show made the going heavy underfoot, but the sun came out and by mid afternoon the crowd were really enjoying themselves.

Gordon awarded show prizes at the end of the event. Prizes went to:

Pre –1930 Royal Enfield:   1921 Model 200, D Wilkinson.
1930 – 1945 Royal Enfield:   1939 350cc trials Bullet, J Garner.
Post War Singles 125 – 250cc:   Crusader Sports, K Latheron.
Post War Singles 350 – 500cc:   1950 Model G, J Poynter.
Post War Twins:   1963 Airflow Constellation, BHK 134A.

Royal Enfield Specials:   Crusader Sports, P Stapleton.
Royal Enfield Archive:   1967 Revelation Bicycle, M Harrison.

We thank all of you who brought your treasured bikes to the event. And a big thank you to the team that made the day happen: the stewards, caterers, exhibitors, traders and, of course, all of you who came along for the show.

We look forward to seeing you next time when we hope that Summer weather will be return to normal!
